South MCD to regularise sanitation workers

The South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) on Friday decided to regularise sanitation workers and re-employ casual teachers, who had been removed earlier.

A proposal, regularising the services of sanitation workers and their substitute, was approved in the general meeting of the civic body.

SDMC Mayor Shyam Sharma said all such employees would be regularised. “The safai karmcharis (sanitation workers) will be regularised under a process on the basis of their seniority and serial number. The process will be completed in a transparent manner,” he said.

Leader of the House Subhash Arya said those employed till date would be benefited under the scheme.

The Corporation, meanwhile, has decided to re-employ casual teachers, who were removed and worked on casual assignment from 2011 to 2014.

“Re-employment will be made on posts vacated by 140 teachers, who were promoted as the principals. The education department has been directed to take an immediate action so that no post remains vacant. The vacant posts adversely affect the learning and development of students. The SDMC has been striving to improve the level and quality of education. Hence, it becomes essential to fill the vacant posts at the earliest,” said the Mayor.

On Friday, a resolution to this effect was moved in the SDMC’s general meeting, which was unanimously approved.
