South DMC to regularise weekly markets operating for last 5 years

The standing committee of South Delhi Municipal Corporation on Tuesday directed municipal commissioner Manish Gupta to regularise
all the weekly markets in its area existing for the
last five years.

The decision follows a SDMC survey which says that the number of weekly markets is very low.
While presenting the findings of the survey, the commissioner said that there are only 45 weekly markets in entire South DMC area.

‘There are over 100 weekly market only in Najafgarh zone of which I am personally aware,’ said Rajesh Gehlot, chairman of standing committee who represents Matiala ward in Najafgarh zone. ‘A minimum of 150 weekly markets exist in South, Central and West zones each,’ he added.

Meanwhile, Gehlot directed the commissioner to issue health trade license to all the banquet halls, lawns, gardens that organise marriage ceremonies and other functions.
