South Delhiites can now download birth, death certificates

Residents of South Delhi can now download a copy of birth and death certificates online as the facility was on Thursday launched by the area’s civic body.

“Any citizen can download a copy by depositing a fee of Rs 21 for a birth certificate and Rs 11 for a death certificate,” the SDMC said.

South Delhi Mayor Shyam Sharma after launching the facility here said the aim is to provide convenience to the citizens, and it is in tune with the ‘Digital India’ initiative of the Modi government.

Citizen can now get the certificates without visiting any designated centre for this purpose, he said.

“For downloading the certificate, one has to visit the website www.mcd.gov.in, and enter the serial number of the certificate.

“After submitting the required fees online, one can download the certificate.

This will go a long way in curbing corruption and minimising the footfall in the offices,” Sharma said.

Additional Commissioner Meeta Singh said “one has to enter the serial number of the old certificate, date and place of birth and death, address and name of the parents.

In case the registration number is not available, one would be able to download the old certificate by entering other available record reference”.
