South Delhi corporation schools to get better sports facilities

South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) is planning establish the first sports school of Delhi to promote sports among students and provide them with better facilities and environment.

According to the proposal, Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar Stadium will be used by the corporation for this school.

‘We will first start an Sports Academy for which Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar Stadium will be used. Subsequently, this academy would be developed as fully residential sports school,’ said Satish Upadhayay, chairman, education committee of SDMC.

 ‘In the next session we will set up a talent search committee to identify sports oriented students from our primary schools,’ added Upadhayay.

In his budget proposal for education department, Upadhayay demanded adequate budget for the sports schools in 2013-14. In his budget proposal, the chairman also demanded budget for conferencing system in in education department located at the headquarters.

‘We are planing to install CCTV in the primary schools of the corporation. At the first stage, five schools would be covered in the four zones,’ added Upadhayay. The department has also planned digital classrooms in 16-20 schools of its jurisdiction in next financial year and free school bags for Classes I, II and III standard.
