Soon, Ggn Police to step up measures to check traffic jams

The Gurgaon Police, in order to concentrate on the traffic problems of the Millennium City, took two major decisions on Wednesday to improve the floating traffic on roads as well as to discipline the irresponsible drivers. In order to expand the horizon of the car-free days, a new stretch will now be added to the drive. This initiative has been taken to cover all major stretches of Gurgaon. Also, a different stretch in the city will now be selected daily where the Zero Tolerance will be observed ie challans will be issued to traffic violators.

The Car Free Day is currently observed in four corridors in Gurgaon — Cyber Park (HUDA City Centre Metro station to Subhash Chowk), Golf Course Road (Sikanderpur to Genpact crossing), DLF Cyber City (complete loop) and Electronic City (Udyog Vihar).

The drive had completed its seventh week this Tuesday after some successful and some average performance. However, as the message was conveyed to the masses via RWAs, corporates and schools, the organisers realised that it is now high time to expand the drive to other parts of the city.
As a result, a new stretch will now be added to the existing list of corridors.

The stretch between M G Road and IFFCO Chowk will now be one of the corridors in the upcoming Car Free Day.

At least one stretch in Gurgaon will be chosen every day where Zero Tolerance will be observed. The idea is to ensure that the message reaches out to errant drivers that they will not be spared if they do not observe traffic rules. Some of the major offences the cops will zero in on are driving without helmets and seat belts, jumping lanes and traffic signals, overloading of public transport, over-speeding, using mobile phones while driving, wrong parking, driving on the wrong side etc.
