Soon, 19th century Gurgaon railway station to get a facelift

The Gurgaon railway station will soon be getting a makeover under the Public Private Partnership (PPP) project. The railway station was built in the 19th century and passengers have often complained about the facilities and cleanliness that it offers.

The project was given a go-ahead after the proposal was put forth by Union Minister of State for Planning and Defence, Rao Inderjit Singh, during a video conferencing with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, sources said.

According to the proposed plan, wi-fi facility and CCTV cameras will soon be installed in the railway station for the convenience and security of passengers. In a recent makeover, air conditioners were installed in the station’s waiting rooms and the entrance area was landscaped with mural paintings. The station also got modern rain shelters and 20 steel benches. About 40 steel dustbins are being installed in and around the station. The conference also revealed that the upgrading work would cost around Rs 60 lakh. Singh, the MP from Gurgaon, will sanction this amount from his MP Local Area Development fund.

“The state government has cleared the proposal and has asked the railways to prepare a plan for the development of the station. The station will also have six water coolers and a water storage tank. This development work will benefit around 1.5 lakh commuters who use the station daily”, said Singh. He also announced a foot-over bridge, for which drawings are already done.

As announced in the Union Railway budget, the Gurgaon railway station will soon get wi-fi facility and audio warning systems will also be installed at three railway crossings in order to check accidents.
