Sonia meets protesters

On Sunday morning Congress president Sonia Gandhi and party’s general secretary Rahul Gandhi met with a group of protesters at her 10 Janpath residence.

During this meet Minister of State for Home Affairs RPN Singh and Congress spokesperson Renuka Chaudhury were also present. Sonia Gandhi assured the group of protesters that speedy action would be taken against those men who had gangraped a 23-year-old medical student in a moving bus.

Sonia met these youngsters for the second time, after she had interacted with them outside her residence on Saturday night around 12.10 am. ‘I am with you...and justice will be delivered,’ is what she had told him while speaking to them, said reports.

According to sources Rahul while interacting with the youngsters said, he could gauge and understand their feelings  and acknowledged that the issue is very emotive. Rahul also emphasised  that the process of decision making should happen in a rational manner as decisions cannot be driven merely by emotions, added the source.

Speaking to reporters, R P N Singh said, ‘A group of seven persons placed their demands, we also noted down their suggestions and also briefed them about the steps the government has taken so far. We had told them that there is a need to maintain calm and the government is committed to take all steps.’
