Sonia fumes at slow pace of development in Rae Bareli

Congress president Sonia Gandhi has expressed her annoyance over the slow pace of development work in her Parliamentary constituency of Rae Bareli and has asked the officials to make all out efforts to achieve the target in stipulated time.

‘The development works in Rae Bareli was very slow while the quality of work in PMGSY roads are poor. The target to construct Indira Awas was also not up to the mark,’ she stated while addressing the district vigilance committee meeting here on Monday.

The annoyance shown by Gandhi has a political overtone as an early Lok Sabha elections are expected by the end of this year. As per government estimation Congress president is yet to utilise her MPLAD fund. 'When proposals had already been passed why the progress of work was so slow,’ she asked the district officials.

‘If the officials fail to implement suggestions made in these meetings, then what’s the purpose of holding meetings,’ she said. Gandhi directed officials to complete the development work, including construction of roads before the onset of monsoon.

Earlier, she laid the foundation stone for a FM radio channel at Puranpura village on Rai Bareli-Faizabad road. The 20 kilowatt FM channel would be constructed with cost of Rs 10 crore. Gandhi also laid the foundation stone for a new post office and a Balika Inter College. Besides she also inaugurated solar light system for the streets of Rae Bareli introduced by NTPC.
