Sonia asked to take a call on Pranab

At the power-packed Congress Working Committee meet held on Monday, Congress president Sonia Gandhi strongly condemned the attacks on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh by Team Anna and accused them of ‘conspiring’ against the United Progressive Alliance government.
Gandhi was also authorised at the meet to select the party’s candidate for the posts of president and vice-president.
Interestingly, finance minister Pranab Mukherjee, whose name tops the list of presidential candidates, moved the resolution that authorised Gandhi. When Mukherjee was asked by the reporters about his chances, he laughed and said, ‘[Sonia Gandhi] is the leader of the UPA, she will consider all choices. The party nominee is always decided by the Congress president.’
During the crucial Congress meeting, Gandhi came out strongly in defence of the prime minister, slamming the Opposition and Team Anna for attacking him on the allocation of coal blocks and other ministers over corruption charges.
