Six JMB terrorists shifted to separate jails

Six JMB terrorists have been shifted to Alipore and Dum Dum central correctional homes here from the Presidency correctional home, a move which comes against the backdrop of the jail break and the subsequent killing of eight SIMI activists in Bhopal.

“We have transferred them (JMB terrorists) to separate prisons in Alipore and Dum Dum. But it has nothing to do with the Bhopal jail break. It is a routine thing which keeps happening every few months,” ADG prison Arun Gupta said.

Six top Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) activists, including four wanted in the 2014 Khagragarh blast case, were arrested from West Bengal and Assam in September this year.

Since their arrest they were lodged in Presidency correctional home and have been questioned by NIA and other central agencies.

According to West Bengal Jail department sources, the security of the main accused in the American Center attack Aftab Ansari and Maoist leaders Chattardhar Mahato and Telegu Deeepak have been beefed up.

The shifting of the six JMB terrorists comes in the backdrop of eight SIMI activists pulling off a daring jail break in the wee hours on Monday after killing a security guard at Bhopal Central Jail. Within hours they were hunted down and killed in an alleged police encounter in the city’s outskirts.

The incident kicked up a controversy and opposition parties have sought a judicial probe into it.
