Six Indian carriers owe Rs 5,889 cr to AAI, 3 oil cos

Six Indian carriers, including beleaguered SpiceJet and now-collapsed Kingfisher Airlines and Paramount Airways, jointly owe a whopping Rs 5,889 crore to Airports Authority of India (AAI) and three state-run oil companies, Rajya Sabha was informed on Tuesday.
While Air India led the airlines in the outstandings to the AAI at Rs 962 crore, SpiceJet owed the state-run airports body Rs 173.09 crore and Kingfisher Rs 172.69 crore, Minister of State for Civil Aviation Mahesh Sharma said in reply to a written question.
GoAir had dues worth Rs 43.80 crore as on December 10, while IndiGo's outstanding was Rs 40.94 crore and Jet Airways' Rs 30.84 crore, he said. Air India owes Rs 2,148.05 crore, Jet Rs 910.11 crore and GoAir Rs 77.83 crore to Indian Oil.
The dues for Bharat Petroleum stood at Air India Rs 405.54 crore, Jet Rs 143.58 crore and GoAir Rs 1.41 crore.
Similarly, the outstandings for Hindustan Petroleum was Air India's Rs 691.74 crore, Kingfisher's Rs 67.72 crore and Paramount's Rs 19.28 crore.
The minister said the airlines' dues to oil marketing companies and AAI were monitored regularly and notices issued to settle them expeditiously.
Actions for recovery of dues are taken in line with the commercial terms and, in cases of persistent delays, defaulting airlines were put on 'cash-and-carry' mode, besides encashing of their security deposits, he said.
