Six held for stealing memory cards worth Rs 40 lakh from IGIA

Six persons, including four customs clearance agents, who allegedly stole memory cards worth around Rs 40 lakh from the cargo hub at IGI Airport here, have been arrested, police said on Friday.

The accused have been identified as Sanjeev (28), Devender Kumar (32), Ankur Malik (22), Anuj Tomar (27), Vijay Tomar (22) and Hans Jain (31), of which the first four worked as customs clearance agents in the airport, said DCP, IGIA, D K Gupta. According to the police, the investigation was taken up after receiving a letter from a Delhi-based logistics company on October 29 in connection with the theft of the 8GB memory cards from a shipment which arrived from Hong Kong. The accused landed in the police net yesterday when they went to sell off the stolen memory cards at Gaffar Market in Karol Bagh in central Delhi.

During interrogation, they told the police that the cargo agents had stolen the cards from the concerned consignment and hid them with Tomar and Jain, with plans to sell them off later and share the money.
