Siwan journo murder: CBI wants police custody of Mohd Kaif

Days after Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) filed an FIR in the murder case of Siwan journalist Rajdeo Ranjan, the department on Wednesday has moved an application in the court seeking police custody of Mohammad Kaif alias Bunty, who surrounded before Siwan District Court on September 21.

Meanwhile, the CBI had got three days police custody of Sonu Kumar Soni, who is the accused of doing recee of journalist Ranjan who was shot dead by motorcycle-borne criminals in May this year. Soni had also surrendered before the court in Bihar.

Kaif is an alleged aide of controversial RJD leader Mohammed Shahabuddin. Kaif was also seen outside the Bhagalpur jail gate receiving RJD politician Mohamad Shahabuddin after he was released from jail on September 10. He was also seen with Shahabuddin at latter native village at Paratappur when he reached there after his release.

While the accused were in the police custody in Bihar, Rohit, Sonu, Rishu, Vijay and Rajesh—the shooters of Ranjan—had confessed to committing the crime on the direction of Azharuddin Beg alias Laddan Mian, a sharpshooter working for Shahabuddin. While disclosing the role of Kaif, they said that he was standing near a railway over-bridge, close to the fruit market in Siwan town where they shot Ranjan.

“To ascertain his role in the murder case, the CBI wants his police custody for three days,” sources in CBI said.
