Sidhu’s wife claims he was ‘sidelined’ by BJP

Stirring up a controversy over continuance of cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Singh Sidhu in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), his wife said he has ‘gone back to the profession where he is respected’. Punjab’s chief parliamentary secretary Navjot Kaur Sidhu had posted on a social networking site that her husband and three-time Amritsar MP has been sidelined and ignored by the BJP.

‘How can you let an honest leader survive? One who does not believe in corruption, does not support criminals, does not become party to commission system, what good can he do to party? So, finally you pair up to push him aside, make him feel suffocated in the system,’ wrote Navjot Kaur, wife of Sidhu on  Facebook. Kaur dismissed allegations that Sidhu was ignoring his constituency for TV shows, saying he was recently been keeping himself busy in the television world because he was made to ‘feel suffocated in the system for his honesty’.

She said her husband had been sidelined in spite of working hard and having a clean image. ‘He has (therefore) gone back to the profession where he is respected,’ wrote Kaur Facebook. BJP leaders however, say that  Sidhu, is  upset with being sidelined by his party, which recently re-organised its top positions. The cricketer turned politician is being unhappy for not being included in the new team of Rajnath Singh, whereas earlier he was the national secretary of the party. Within the BJP, there have been allegations that Sidhu has appeared disconnected from politics.

Kaur, however, alleged that Sidhu was not consulted while selecting party leaders for state and even Amritsar district bodies.Besides dealing with infighting in the BJP, Sidhu also had differences with the SAD over the municipal corporation elections.

Sidhu had recently participated in reality show Big Boss and currently hosts a show in the ongoing Indian Premier League matches.
