SI in soup after his service pistol, cartridges get stolen

Carelessness on the part of a 27-year-old probation sub-inspector (SI) has been giving sleepless nights to the entire central district police force. The service pistol along with 10 cartridges of the sub-inspector of the Kamla Market police station was stolen on November 22 from within the station premises. The police have registered an FIR against the sub-inspector, Bhawani Singh and started departmental inquiry against him. Branding it as a prank played by some miscreants within the police station, the cops are trying to find the lost firearms.

Sources said that the incident took place on Sunday evening when Bhawani Singh left his service pistol and 10 cartridges in a case in his allotted room at the Kamla Market police station. He was issued one .9mm service pistol and 10 cartridges on November 17 for the security arrangement at the Ramlila Maidan. When the programme ended on November 21, Singh returned to the station around 10 pm along with the firearms.

“SI Bhawani Singh then informed the police officer with whom he shared the room with and after searching it properly, the other police officials were informed. Singh, along with the other police officials tried to search for the arms till November 23 within and around the police premises but in vain. After that, an FIR was registered on November 24 at the Kamla Market police station under Section 380 of the IPC,” confirmed Parmaditya, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central).

The official added that a departmental inquiry has been initiated against Singh and he will soon be suspended.
