Shootout at Gurgaon hospital, two injured

In a shocking incident in Millennium City Gurgaon, two patients were shot at in the intensive care unit (ICU) of Sunrise hospital. Around 3.15 pm on Tuesday, nine unidentified assailants barged into the hospital and opened fire on the father and son duo, identified as Satveer, 50 and Joginder, 26. An eyewitness told the police that all assailants were carrying weapons.

Hearing gunshots, the hospital officials informed the local police. According to sources in the hospital, none of the security guards took the initiative to nab the assailants. ‘The hospital security staff is under police radar,’ a senior police official, who is investigating the matter, said. ‘The whole incident has been captured by the CCTV cameras installed in the hospital premises. The assailants are clearly visible in the footage. We are trying to trace all accused,’ Maheshwar Dayal, Deputy Commissioner of Police (west) said.

Dayal added the investigating team is trying to find out the total number of bullets fired. ‘We have recovered a few empty bullet shells from the ICU, which have been sent for examination,’ he said. It was alleged by family members of the victims that on Tuesday morning also, the duo was attacked outside the local court in Khandsa village. They were brutally beaten up by their rivals, after which they were admitted to Sunrise hospital.

‘In the initial investigation, it has come up that in 2011, Satbir had problems with a group over some property matter. A shootout had taken place, after which a case was wegistered in Kherki Daula police station. On Tuesday morning, both parties had to attend the hearing in the local court in Khandsa village. But before attending the hearing, a scuffle took place between them,’ the official said.

The victims have been referred to the nearby Medanta Medicity hospital. A case has been registered.
