Shiv Sena threat may force organisers to scrap Atif’s concert

Once again, Shiv Sena’s threat opposing acts and performances by Pakistani artistes had allegedly forced organizers to cancel the most awaited concert of Pakistani Singer Atif Aslam (32) in Pune. The concert was scheduled on Saturday, April 25 at Manora Park Town.

It is important to mention that this is not the first time the Shiv Sena has opposed performances by Pakistani artistes in India.

However, Speaking to Millennium Post, Manoj Patil, Deputy Commissioner of Pune Police (Zone IV) said, “So far we haven’t got any official information from the organizer about the cancellation of the event. But yes, we are aware about Shiv Sena’s threat to drop this particular event featuring Pakistani Rockstar Atif Aslam. Even if the concert has not been cancelled, we are ready to provide heavy deployment of police force to ensure law and order situation.”

Meanwhile, when Millennium Post tried to contact Atif Aslam, he remained unavailable whereas his spokesperson said, “I don’t think that the concert has been cancelled because as of now the organizer has not informed us.”

Anjaneya Sathe, the organiser of the event, said they had bowed to the Sena’s demand considering the ‘law and order’ situation and the ‘popular sentiments’ surrounding Pakistan. “we have to look at larger perspective. It is our duty to ensure safety of the artists and the public so we have called off the event. The process of refunding of the tickets is in process”, Sathe added.

A senior leader of Shiv Sena said, “We have requested the senior police officials to not to give permission for such events featuring Pakistani artistes, but before we put forward our demands the concerned department had already given permission to them.”  Meanwhile, Sena leader Ajay Bhosle said,“If they decide to go ahead with the concert, they would have to face action Sena style.”
