Seven terror convicts executed in jails across Pakistan

Seven terror convicts were hanged on Tuesday in jails across Pakistan, including a junior technician at Pakistan Air Force who was involved in the attack on former military ruler Pervez Musharraf.

PAF’s former junior technician Nawazish Ali and civilian Mushtaq Ahmed, who were involved in an assassination attempt on General (retd.) Musharraf in 2003 were executed at Central Jail Faisalabad, officials said. Three terror convicts - Muhammad Talha, Khalil Ahmed and Shahid Hanif - were hanged in Sukkur Central Jail. They were sentenced to death in 2001 for killing Syed Zaffar Ali Shah, the then director of defence ministry.

Behram Khan was hanged in Karachi Central Prison for killing Advocate Mohammad Ashraf in a
courtroom of the Sindh High Court in April 2003.

He was convicted by an anti-terrorism court in June 2003. Zulfikar Ali was hanged at Adiala jail in Rawalpind. He was convicted of killing two policemen near the US Consulate General in Karachi.
Extra ordinary security measures were taken around the jails, where death row prisoners were executed.

Pakistan resumed executions after lifting moratorium in the wake of attack at the Peshawar military school massacre that left 150 people dead, mostly students, last month.

Earlier, Pakistan had executed eight people after lifting the moratorium on executions of death row prisoners. The fresh executions take the total number to 15.
