‘Serial killings’ in South Delhi were murder plots, prove cops with 2 arrests

Not all married couples live “happily ever after” and have a fairytale life. Some go wrong, while some others end in disasters like this one. Sushma, a resident of Assam married Arjun a day after Karva Chauth, hoping to start a new life. 

However, Arjun had other plans, which took shape in the form of Sushma’s brutal murder with her body cut into pieces. Even her friend, who was privy to this secret marriage, was not spared.

In November two women were murdered brutally, their bodies chopped and thrown at different places in South Delhi that gave Delhi Police sleepless nights. The media even speculated that it might be a case of  ‘serial killings’.

However, on Saturday the Delhi Police took a sigh of relief when they solved the two sensational cases. Linking the two murder cases, the Police officially put a full stop on all speculations of ‘serial killings’.

It all started on November 18 when the dead body of a young woman was found wrapped in a polythene sheet outside a temple at Baba Gang Nath Marg in Vasant Vihar. The police were struggling to find the identity of the deceased when just after a week on November 25 another dead body of a young woman was found in a sewer at a residential colony in Munirka. The body was chopped and the head was missing. The police till then had no idea if these two murders being linked.

Every effort of the cops fell flat till one day when a man approached police and identified one of the bodies that had a tattoo on its back. He was a friend of the deceased and was tracking her on her sister’s request. The Munirka sewer dead body was identified as Sushma, a resident of Assam. When police reached her residence it was known she stayed with another woman Nayesha, a native of Nepal who was missing too for some days. It was discovered that the second body was of Nayesha.

The cops on going through the mobile calls details zeroed in on a group of three persons Arjun, Govind and Jeevan who were missing from the day of the incident. Investigation revealed that one of their rented accommodation had blood stains. Arjun stayed with a woman Neha and she was absconding too.

Police first caught accused Jeevan from Anand Vihar ISBT and he spilled the beans. Jeevan told police that the trio had murdered Sushma and Nayesha. Neha was a conspirator and was arrested too by the cops.

“Jeevan said that both the deceased ladies as well as Neha were spa workers and were known to Arjun, Govind and himself. Sushma and Nayesha had deposited a huge sum of their earnings with Arjun and were asking for their money. 

This irked Arjun and he hatched a conspiracy to eliminate Sushma. Nayesha was eliminated to conceal the first murder,” said R P Upadhayay, joint CP South-eastern Range. Arjun and Neha were in a live-in relation but things worsened when Arjun married Sushma after Karva Chauth. 

However, Nayesha was coaxing Arjun to do a court marriage with Sushma and also give their money back. This led the four of them hatch a conspiracy to kill the two. The Police are still looking for the mastermind Arjun and his accomplice Govind who are still at large.
