Seniors rag Malda college first year student, rub lighted cigarette on him

A first year student of Malda’s Gour College has been admitted to hospital after being allegedly ragged by his seniors.

A complaint in this regard has been lodged with the police on Friday morning.

The victim, Pallab Banerjee, of Sanskrit department complained that a group of third-year students had asked him not to attend college and was punished as he disobeyed their diktat.

When Pallab reached college on Thursday, a group of third-year students took him to a class room and forced him to consume alcohol.

The senior students had then allegedly inflicted cigarette burns on several parts of his body.

Pallab reached home in a seriously ill condition and was immediately admitted to Malda College and Hospital.

Police have started a probe but yet to identify the accused students.

The incident has aroused tension in the college campus. College authorities are confused as to why Pallab was asked not to come to the college, said an official adding that they are treating the matter very seriously.
