Senior UP police official pays price for his sting ops against SP leader

Superintendent of Police of Gonda, Navneet Rana had to pay the price for doing a sting operation against a senior Samajwadi Party leader in a cattle smuggling case, when he was removed from the post on Wednesday.

According to an official spokesman,Hari Narayan Singh, SP CB-CID, Gorakhpur has been made the new SP of Gonda in place of Navneet Rana, who is attached to the state police headquarters.

Surprisingly, Principal Secretary (Home) R M Srivastava feigned ignorance about the transfer and refused to talk on this issue.

Earlier, the drive of the Uttar Pradesh police against cattle smuggling had invited trouble for a senior Samajwadi Party leader, K C Pandey, who got Minister of State status just a few days back after being made chairman of Cane Research Institute by the Akhilesh Yadav Government.

He was said to be trapped during reverse sting operation carried out by Rana. After the Gonda police held one Ashutosh Pandey, a key member of cattle smugglers gang and his cohorts, K C  Pandey said to have called the officer and tried to get the accused freed.
