Selena to turn Jay Asher novel into Netflix series

Singer Selena Gomez has snapped up the film rights to Jay Asher’s 2007 novel “13 Reasons Why” and could appear in the series adaptation of the book.

Netflix bosses have given a straight-to-series pickup to a project, The Hollywood Reporter said. Before Netflix, Universal picked up the option for “13 Reasons Why” in 2012 in hopes of turning it into a starring vehicle for Gomez. The novel centers on a shy California high school student who finds a box of cassette tapes on his doorstep. Gomez and her mother will serve as executive producers.
