Singer Selena Gomez is left ‘heartborken’ after losing her friend Christina Grimmie. The 23-year-old ‘Same Old Love’ songtress paid a tribute to ‘The Voice’ alum in the middle of her Miami concert, reported E! online.

‘One thing about Christina and her family is that she holds her faith so closely to her. I think it’s not about a religion and it’s not about good deeds. ‘I think she just had faith and I don’t really understand how this really happened, but I would like to dedicate this song to her,’ Gomez said delivering an emotional performance of ‘Transfiguration.’

Prior to the concert the former Disney star posted a throwback photo of herself having fun with Grimmie. ‘My heart is absolutely broken,’ . ‘I miss you Christina,’ she captioned the picture. The duo met after Gomez’s stepfather Brian Teefey discovered Grimmie, 22, on YouTube and later served as her longtime manager. Grimmie was fatally shot late Friday after opening for pop-rock band Before You Exit at the Plaza Live.  The shooter, was identified as 27-year-old Kevin James Loibl, Orlando police announced.

He allegedly arrived armed with two handguns and a hunting knife, reported Entertainment Weekly. Loibl allegedly opened fire on Grimmie during a meet and greet with The Voicealum after the show. Her brother, Marcus, tackled Loibl to the ground, and Loibl then allegedly killed himself. Police say Grimmie died from her gunshot wounds.

Police said in a press conference that he likely was a deranged fan. “There’s no indication that he knew her, we’re looking into that to try and find a motive for the crime.” Police chief John Mina said they were looking into his phone and computer for further information.
