Seizure of truck with animal skin sparks tension in Khajoori Khas

According to a source, the police had reportedly impounded a truck carrying cattle skin at Khajoori Khas on the intervening night of Thursday and Friday, based on a tip-off by certain people who claimed to be members of a right wing outfit. However, locals in the area later held a demonstration outside the police station alleging that the cops had not dealt with the case with adequate strictness.

On Friday morning, the demonstrators blocked the Khajoori Khas Chowk and approach road towards Wazirabad, reportedly throwing the traffic out-of-gear in the area. Meanwhile, unidentified persons started spreading rumours and gave a communal colour to the issue and attempted to link it with the hanging of Yakub Memon, said the source.

In no time, unidentified persons, who were a part of the mob, set two motorbikes ablaze and some of them also allegedly resorted to pelting stones. The police then had to resort to mild force in order to bring the situation under control.

By Friday evening, four persons were detained and the police were trying to figure out the source of the alleged rumours which reportedly triggered the violence, said the source.

The area was later visited by senior police officials of the concerned range of Delhi Police and a large police team was deployed in order to keep check on any potential untoward incident reported there.
So far, two cases have been registered in connection with the incident–one regarding the carrying of animal skin in the truck and another for alleged rioting, the source added.
