Security outside Consulates stepped up after meeting

Security outside the Consulates of various countries in the city has been intensified following a high level meeting with the Consul Generals of five countries at Lalbazar on Friday evening.

Rajeev Kumar, Commissioner of Police, and Supratim Sarkar, Joint Commissioner of Police (headquarters) held a meeting with the Consul Generals of France, Germany, Italy, Russia and Japan.

Sources said that the meeting was all about the security of the Consulates in the city following the repeated incidents of terror attack in different parts of the world. The top brass of the city police have discussed the matter with the Consul Generals of the countries.

Additional policemen were deployed outside all the Consulates and concerned police officers were directed to take necessary measures to ensure that no untoward incident take place near the Consulates.

The senior police officers have also directed the Consul Generals about the measures that they also need to take to ensure security of the premises.

They have also been asked not to allow anyone to enter the premises without proper checking and to keep watch whether anyone loitered suspiciously in and around the area.

Policemen in plain clothes will also be deployed and immediate steps will be taken as and when required.
