Security measures stepped up before Indo-Pak clash

Entry to the gallery to watch practice by Pakistan cricket team at Eden Gardens was restricted owing to security reasons.

Usually some are allowed to remain seated in the gallery to watch players from different countries practicing ahead of a big match. But this time no one was allowed to enter the gallery to watch the players practicing. Moreover, policemen in plainclothes were posted in the gallery to keep a close watch.

Three layer security arrangements have been made to ensure safety of the players of Pakistan cricket team. Instructions have been given to the on-duty policemen to check bags of those entering the stadium and to take immediate steps if find anyone moving around suspiciously in and around the stadium.

The match between India and Pakistan will be held in the stadium on March 19. Steps have also been taken to beef up the security arrangements when former players of Pakistan and India will be honoured in the stadium. Necessary arrangements have also been taken for security of the VIPs scheduled to visit the stadium during the match.

Apart from the city police’s Armed Force, commandos were also posted outside the stadium. Senior police officers of the deputy commissioner of police rank were found supervising the security arrangements in the stadium.

From Sunday itself the police were found manning the security barricades and allowing only those are having necessary pass to reach near the stadium.

Necessary security arrangements have also been made to assure security of the players during their stay in the hotel.

On Sunday once again senior officers of the Kolkata Police held meetings with CAB officials to discuss the security issues. The CAB officials will also have to show passes apart from their identity cards to get an entry to the stadium.

Surveillance cameras have also been installed to bring the major part under surveillance.
