Security beefed up in Capital for festive season

Delhi Police have stepped up security in the city to thwart any untoward incident in the national Capital during the festive season.

In a meeting, security arrangements in the city were reviewed by the top brass. Counterparts in neighbouring states were also informed to take adequate measures on their part, a senior police official said.

Heightened security can be witnessed in and around popular markets in the city, which include Lajpat Nagar, Karol Bagh, Sarojini Nagar, Chandni Chowk and Chawri Bazar.

Staff at shopping malls, restaurants, pubs, multiplexes and other installations which attract huge gatherings have been asked to be extra vigilant, said the official.

The police are also keeping an eye on potential security threats at five-star hotels in the city and adequate measures have been taken, the official said.

The Crime Branch and Special Cell of Delhi Police have also been instructed to further strengthen their intelligence systems and keep a tab on movement of suspected individuals.

Local police has been instructed to keep a tight vigil and ensure that every anti-terrorism measures are in place.

People have been asked to report any suspicious activities on anti-terror helpline number 1090.

The police have also kept several Quick Response Teams (QRT) and Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) teams on their toes to deal with any emergency situation, the official said.
