Second Car-Free Day to be held on Nov 22

In view of controlling air pollution and traffic congestion, the Delhi government will organise the second Car-Free Day on November 22 in Dwarka.

It will be organized on road No-202 of Dwarka, between sector 3-13 to Sector 7-9, from 8 am to 4 pm, said Delhi transport minister Gopal Rai.

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal too invited people to participate in the event and bring their cycles to join the cycle rally that will start from Dwarka Sports Complex.

“8 am, 22 Nov, Sunday. Car free day. Dwarka sports complex, sec 11, Dwarka. Lets cycle together. I will be there. Apni cycle saath lana,” Kejriwal wrote on Twitter.

The main event will be organized at DDA sports complex and the total distance of cycle rally will be about 6 km.

The local RWAs and school representatives as well as NCC and NSS volunteers will participate in the event.

“Citizens of Delhi are facing very high levels of pollution in the city. Use of public transport is an important alternative for reducing the use of private vehicles thereby reducing the congestion and air pollution,” he said.

Extra buses with increased frequency will be deployed on this route for public convenience. Except cars, all public transport will be allowed on this stretch, he added.

Hundreds of people led by Chief Minister Kejriwal in a cycle-rally between Red Fort and Bhagwan Das Marg, had participated in Delhi’s first car-free day held on October 22.
