Seats for poor children to be filled by July 31

Delhi Education Minister Arvinder Singh Lovely held a meeting on Wednesday to ensure admission in Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) category.

The education minister said that admission process would continue during the summer vacations as well and the admission process would be completed by 31 July.

According to him, the Right to Education Act has already been implemented by Delhi government and according to the provisions of RTE Act, admission would be granted throughout the year to the children desirous for admission.

'Proper instructions have been issued to all officers concerned, deputy directors and education officers for granting admission in EWS category. Zone school-wise list of vacancies under EWS category has been also uploaded on the official website of Education department, which is also available with the education officer concerned, for convenience of the students and parents,' said Lovely.

The minister has directed the officers of Education department to place advertisements regarding school-wise vacancies under EWS category in leading newspapers, to create an awareness, within a day or two. About 25 per cent seats have been reserved for students belonging to EWS category. There are around 9,706 vacant seats in nine districts of Delhi.

Earlier, Delhi high court passed an order asking the schools in the national capital to fill up the EWS quota before the summer break.

Sources in the department said that admission process to be more simple and transparent, EWS category seats would be filled as per the rules and regulations of RTE Act.
