SDMC starts online registration of pet dogs

In order to simplify the process of registration of pet dogs and to know their exact data, the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) on Tuesday started the process of online registration. The Corporation, which had given the go-ahead earlier in June, has decided to provide a ‘unique registration number’ online.

SDMC Mayor Shyam Sharma said that with the inauguration process of online registration of pet dogs, the citizens will not need to come to the offices of SDMC. As per Section 399 of the DMC Act, the registration of pet dogs is mandatory for dog owners and all dogs kept within Delhi are required to be registered with the Municipal Corporation. As per this section, it is compulsory that all the registered pet dogs must wear the collar band issued by the registration authority. Any unregistered dog, if found in any public place, will be detained by the Corporation. Officials of the SDMC informed that for registration of pet dogs in the zones till now, a lot of documents used to be needed like proof of address of the owner, certificate of anti-rabies vaccination, photo of the dog with owner along with an application form, which the owner had to personally submit in the zonal office and after this, every owner had to visit the zonal office in person to apply and collect the registration.  Now, when the online registration has been started, no one needs to visit the Corporation offices. The applicant can get the ‘unique registration number’ by uploading proof of residence, certificate of vaccination against rabies and one photograph of the dog along with the owner. The Corporation will charge a one-time fee of Rs 500 from the applicant. “For online registration of pet dogs, citizens have to log on to the website of South MCD www.mcdonline.gov.in and then submit all the required documents along with the fees to generate its pet Registration Certificate.

This Registration Certificate will be valid for the entire lifetime of the dog but annual fees has to be deposited online. Under simplification of procedure, we are undertaking various activities. Now, I request citizens to come forward and complete the process of registration of their pets,” said SDMC Commissioner Puneet Kumar Goel.
