SDMC, NDMC focus on quality of food

The chairman, education committee, South Delhi Municipal Corporation, Satish Upadhyay paid surprise visits to the kitchens of NGOs supplying food for mid-day meals in SDMC-run schools. He made thorough investigation regarding the whole process of preparing mid-day meals, ingredients used, other details and directed officials to collect samples for checking.
Upadhyay also directed principals and others to check the food being served meets proper standards, before distributing the same to the children. In addition to this, he laid emphasis on tightening security to avoid possibility of any outsider tampering with the food.
The issue of mid-day meals was also raised in the standing committee meeting of the North corporation, with leader of the house Mahendra Nagpal drawing attention of the members to the poor nutritional quality of food being served to children.
