SDMC mulls 400 more open gyms in its parks for citizens

South MCD has decided to open 400 more open gyms in its parks. The Corporation is already operating 121 open gyms in its parks for citizens particularly for youth.

“We hope the gyms will be installed within a month’s time,” said Shyam Sharma, Mayor of SDMC directing the officers to execute the work in a mission mode. 

He emphasised that the SDMC is the only local body in the northern India which has taken up a project to enhance the look and image of its parks apart from ensuring maximum footfall of the users. There are 6,820 parks in the jurisdiction of SDMC which are spread in 2,200 acre of area. These parks are maintained by horticulture department of the Corporation.

The Mayor has already asked the Councillors to identify the parks under their respective wards for installation of the new open gyms. 

“SDMC has been working to provide more and more facilities in its parks apart from nurturing the green area and planting saplings of colourful seasonal and all weather flowers in the parks to present a pleasing view for the citizens,” said Sharma.  

The Mayor made the announcements after having chaired a high-level meeting to review the status and future plans for further beautification of the parks. 

“The parks being maintained by the SDMC have been providing enormous opportunities to the citizens for their physical exercise, sports, entertainment, interaction on social issues apart from providing a serene environment to the walkers in the morning and evening,” said Sharma.
