SDMC announces freebies to win over voters for upcoming elections

Gearing for next year’s civic polls, the BJP-ruled the South Delhi Municipal Corporation has announced several sops to woo voters, which includes installation of lights, new gyms and distribution of sewing machines. The announcement in these regard was made by Mayor, SDMC, Shyam Sharma in the House meeting. “The Corporation, in order to improve civic services, has initiated a slew of measures. To execute them, a special fund has been spent,” the Mayor said.

The SDMC leaders informed that it has written to all the Councillors to specify the park where open gyms and a fibre swings could be installed. These will be provided in all the wards. It has been further stated that the Corporation has decided to provide additional 4,000 benches for parks in all the wards to provide sitting facilities to the citizens. All primary schools will be provided fibre swings very soon and an action has been initiated.

The Corporation is adopting a liberal approach towards elders and has decided to make full payment of oldage pension to them by December 2016. The process is on to distribute the pension. Installation of LED lights will take place at identified dark places by December 2016 and for this, an MoU has been signed for installation of LED lights for remaining poles in the parks very soon. The Councillors have also been requested to specify the quantity of sewing machines required for distribution in their wards. The maximum limit of sewing machines for a ward is 100. Apart from this, every ward will get 25 dhobi irons each.

The senior officials said that the Corporation is serious about curbing air pollution as the issue is related to the future generation. The Engineer-in-Chief stated that the issue is related to a number of departments/agencies, however, the Corporation has taken action on the points related to it. The Corporation has acted against burning of leaves/garbage. It suspended construction activities during days of extreme pollution. The Corporation has also been making use of ready mix concrete for its construction activities. The SDMC has been undertaking sanitation and de-silting activities too in the unauthorised colonies.
