Science camp to be organised for Jangalmahal school students
Jagadish Bose National Science Talent Search (JBNSTS) along with Rakamrishna Mission will hold a science talent camp for the students of Eklavya Model Residential School situated in Jangalmahal.
The residential school is meant exclusively for SC students of whom many are first generation learners. The Ramakrishna Mission has taken over the school at the request of Mamata Banerjee. This is for the first time when a science talent search camp is being organised for the students of class XII of a school situated in the backward area. The camp will be held in Kolkata in May. The teachers who are teaching science will take part in an orientation camp so that they become mentors for the schools situated in the adjoining areas. The school has been declared as a nodal institute for the region. The Ramakrishna Mirror has chalked out a comprehensive plan to impart education to the students coming from economically challenged families. The laboratory of the school will be upgraded by Narendrapur Ramakrishna Mission. Ramakrishna Mission has given stress on teaching English to the student as it is often found that good students cannot do well in all India examination just because of poor knowledge in English. Also, attempts have been made so that the students develop respect for their own culture. With this in mind, Pithe Puli Utsav was held in the school on January 24. Ramakrishna Mission has experience in teaching tribal students in North-East Frontier Province and in other parts of the country. Many tribal students who got education in these schools are well settled in life both in the country and abroad. The RKM has requested the State government to allot land situated next to the school so that a centre can be developed for all round development of students. It proposes to set up an auditorium, seminar halls, classes for spoken English and a coaching centre for the students who live in the vicinity but go to other schools.
