Scam-tainted MP Governor steps down

Madhya Pradesh Governor Ram Naresh Yadav on Wednesday sent his resignation after the Union home ministry asked him to step down following a FIR against him in connection with alleged irregularities in recruitment of forest guards, which hit the headlines as “Vyapam Scam”.

The Special Task Force (STF) probing the Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board (MPPEB) or “Vyapam” scam registered an FIR against Yadav under various sections of IPC, including 420 for cheating and section 405 of criminal breach of trust. Sources said he became the first Indian governor to be booked in a cheating case.

While Ram Naresh Yadav has been charged for criminal conspiracy in rigging the forest guard recruitment examination, his son Sailesh has been named in an FIR pertaining to scam in contractual teachers recruitment exam.
