The SC on Friday said the tapped telephone conversations of Niira Radia with politicians and corporates needs to be scrutinised by the CBI to find out if there was any element of criminality. A bench said it had gone through the transcripts and while some are innocuous, others are not. The matter was adjourned for 13 February as Additional Solicitor General Haren Rawal was not present in the court when it asked names of officers who will be available to scrutinise the documents.
Advocate Prashant Bhushan, appearing for NGO, Centre for Public Interest Litigation, submitted that SIT should be formed to conduct scrutiny of the transcription. However, the court said that the plea for SIT is premature and it might be considered at a later stage.
