SC defers hearing on Sahara’s plea on releasing Subrata Roy

On Tuesday, miffed with its chief Subrata Roy’s week-long custody in Delhi’s Tihar jail, Sahara group moved the Supreme Court, demanding his immediate release.
Moving a habeas corpus petition, Sahara’s counsel approached a bench led by Chief Justice P Sathasivam and termed Roy’s custody as illegal and beyond the scope of law.
The bench had agreed to hear the plea at 2 pm. Roy has been in jail since March 4 after a two-judge bench had rejected the group’s proposal on refunding investors. The court had called the proposal as ‘dishonourable’.
Sahara came up with a proposal to pay Rs 2,500 crore within three days, and the remaining amount in five installments, the last of which was to come in July 2015.
