Saudi Arabian diplomat accused of raping two Nepali domestic helps

The incident came to light when the third domestic help,  who hailed from the North East, managed to escape and reported the matter to an NGO that brought the matter to the police. According to the cops, besides the diplomat, some others had also raped the girls at the former’s residence and his wife was also involved in the conspiracy.  

Immediately after the complaint, Gurgaon police raided the residence of the diplomat in Cyber City, DLF Phase – II and rescued the girls. “We got a <g data-gr-id="25">tip off</g> by an NGO that the domestic helps were allegedly being held captive against their will and being assaulted by the diplomat’s family and guards. The raid was carried out on Monday after the NGO asked the police to rescue the victims,” said Rajesh Kumar, ACP (Crime) Gurgaon Police. 

According to sources, Nepalese Embassy in New Delhi had also intervened into the matter and contacted the concerned authorities to take strict action against the accused. “There girls were hired as domestic helps through a Delhi-based human resource placement agency around one month back,” added the officer.  

According to a senior police officer, as per the police complaint, one of the accused who is a secretary I level official in Saudi Arabian Embassy, while the second accused is his wife who allegedly tortured the victims. The matter came to light when the accused hired a third domestic help, a resident of Shillong, who was also tortured by them but somehow managed to escape. “The victims are around 30 years of age and were hired through a placement agent in Delhi. They were also taken to Saudi Arabia and had returned last month. They had been held hostages since then,” added the officer. 

They were brought to the police station and later sent to the Civil Hospital for a medical examination. Meanwhile, the police said that this is yet to be ascertained whether the accused had raped them in Saudi Arabia or not. The diplomat had allegedly taken them to Saudi Arabia for a brief period.  

“We are investigating the matter and have already informed the concerned authorities as it is related to foreign diplomats,” he added. 

Kumar further informed that the apartment in Gurgaon was taken on rent by the diplomat around four months back. “We are investigating the incident and will register a case against the culprits soon after the women’s statement is recorded.” A case under Sections 376 (rape), 377 (sodomy), 376 D,342, 120 B, 323, and 506 of IPC has been registered and police are investigating the matter.
