Sarod player Tejendra Narayan to release book on Alauddin Khan

Among the listeners was Shantideb Ghosh, a well known Rabindra sangeet exponent. He jotted down his experience on paper which came out in 1952 –when the maestro was an octogenarian. The entire write up in the form of a book will be released by famous sarod player Tejendra Narayan Majumdar on June 21 when the globe will be celebrating World Music Day. The function will be organised by Sutradhar at Abanendra Sabhagriha in the evening.

Somendranath Bandyopadhyay will talk about his memories associated with Shantideb Ghosh and the musical atmosphere that existed in the ashram in those days. Mita Nag will be speaking on the relation between Maihar and Bishnupur Gharana. 

Well known music personality Anindya Bandyopadhyay, who had made a documentary on Alauddin Khan, will elaborate on his experience with the maestro.

Alauddin Khan in his initial years took musical training from Amritalal Dutta popularly known as Habu Dutta, Swami Vivekananda’s cousin. He used to stay at Swamiji’s ancestral house. As a tabla player, he performed at Chaitanya Lila –a famous drama directed by Girish Chandra Ghosh and had changed his name to Prasanna Biswas. Shri Ramakrishna had gone to witness the drama and he went into a state of trance.

The drama had a great social impact and Shri Ramkrishna had blessed Noti Binadini after watching the show. Alauddin was a visiting fellow at Shantiniketan and had spent some days there. His relationship with the teachers was very cordial and everyday he used to enthrall audience by his performance.
