Sanskrit Saptaha Samaraho flagged off

The Vice Chancellor of Sanskrit University, Dilip Kumar Mohanto on Tuesday inaugurated the week-long Sanskrit Saptaha Samaraho 2016.

During the week, there will be seminar, contest on speech in Sanskrit, exhibition and documentary show on practical Sanskrit, drama and chorus song in Sanskrit by Gadadhar Das and his troupe from Puri. The Governor KN Tripathi, state education minister Partha Chatterjee, essayist and Sanskrit scholar Nrisingha Prasad Bhaduri and principal secretary, higher education Vivek Kumar will be present on August 19. State Power minister Sobhandeb Chatterjee will be present in the concluding programme.

Upal Sen, principal, Sanskrit College thanked the Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to upgrade the 192 year old college into a University. The financial assistance provided by the state government will help in giving better education to the students and more students will be attracted to study Sanskrit.

The college has played an important role in carrying out research in Sanskrit. As the popularity of the language has gone up in the West, particularly in the European countries and research is going in various fields like medicine and space science, more students will be attracted to learn the language that has earned respect from scholars all over the globe for being the most scientific language.

As there is interest among young people to learn Sanskrit, the Hidelberg University in Germany has opened spoken Sanskrit courses in Switzerland, Italy and India. Sanskrit College had illustrious principals like Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar, Mahesh Chandra Nayaratna, Haraprasad Shastri, Bishnupada Bhattacharya among others.
