Sanitary napkin vending machines for girls in Karnal

By next month sanitary napkin vending machines, along with incinerators, will be installed in women’s educational institutes in Karnal district of Haryana.

This first-of-its-kind initiative named ‘Sakhi’ is being undertaken with the objective of making the adolescent girls aware of menstrual hygiene, an official spokesman said here on Monday.
The machines will be set up by January 26, he said.

The initiative will be carried out under the guidance of ‘Swayamsiddha’, a non-government organisation, he said. These vending machines would work like ATMs and will be jointly installed by Swayamsiddha and the Health Department.

“Each machine will dispense three napkins for Rs 10.

Besides, sanitary napkin incinerators will also be installed for safe disposal of used napkins,” he said.
The Health Department would deploy two health workers in the district for successful implementation of the project.

Swayamsiddha would also organise workshop to make the girls aware about health and hygiene, he added.
