Sandeep Kumar surrenders

Hours after the woman seen in the video had lodged a complaint against Sacked Minister Sandeep Kumar, alleging that she had been given a drink laced with drugs and was raped by Kumar, he surrendered before police on Saturday.

On Saturday evening, Kumar allegedly reached the Deputy Commissioner of Police’s office in Rohini and surrendered himself.

After receiving the complaint by the woman seen in the video and based on her statement, an FIR was registered under the charges of rape and IT Act at Sultanpuri police station. Meanwhile, a medical examination of the victim woman has been conducted.

According to sources, the woman had also alleged in her complaint that the CD was made after Kumar became a minister. The woman claimed she had gone to meet Kumar for his help in getting a ration card. She was asked to wait at the minister’s office and then offered a cold drink which was allegedly laced with sedative. Few minutes later, she lost consciousness, and was allegedly raped.

The woman also told police that she did not know a video had been made. Meanwhile, Kumar has maintained that he is being targeted under a “conspiracy” as he was a dalit and demanded a probe into the issue.

Meanwhile, Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chief Swati Maliwal on Saturday welcomed the AAP’s decision to sack Sandeep Kumar, saying it is extremely shameful that the latter being the Women and Child Development minister was busy in his own celebrations at a time when several cases of crime against the feminine gender have been reported in the city.

“The situation of Delhi is so bad. Children are being raped and he was indulging in celebrations. He was the Women and Child Development minister, how shameful it is. These types of people should immediately be sacked,” Maliwal said.
