Salt Lake gang-rape: Cops submit charge-sheet

Police have submitted a charge-sheet before Bidhannagar court in connection with a gang-rape incident that had taken place in Bidhannagar on May 30. The charge-sheet contains the names of four persons who dragged a woman into a car. They were travelling from Salt Lake and gang-raped her in the running vehicle at Rajarhat. Within two weeks of the incident, the police had arrested the four accused in this connection. They have filed a charge- sheet within 69 days since the crime had taken place.

A 25-year-old woman was allegedly raped by four persons in a moving vehicle which reminded of the Park Street gang-rape incident. The accused had reportedly pushed her out of the car after committing the crime.

The woman who was originally from Nepal had been staying in the area for the last three years. According to the police, the victim had left home in an Uber cab around 11 pm on the day of incident to visit a coffee shop. She apparently mistook the location and got off near College More at Sector V.
The accused who were travelling in the car dragged her into the vehicle and committed the crime. 

The accused pushed her off the vehicle near Baisakhi in Salt Lake early morning. The victim had snatched a mobile phone of one of the accused while getting off the vehicle. Police started a probe and the mobile phone helped the investigating officers to crack the case.

The incident had created much flutter with many persons raising the questions on the security issues at Salt Lake. The accused are Arnab Bera, Sourav Dey, Subhendu Nag and Subrata Dutta against whom the police have filed the charge-sheet. They have been booked under various sections for rape and criminal conspiracies. Subrata was a security guard of a call centre while the others were the drivers of various private firms. After starting an investigation police have recorded statements of around 20-22 witnesses in this connection.
