SAIL is keen to invest in Jharkhand, says chairman

SAIL chairman C S Verma visited Bokaro Steel Plant [BSL] on 8-9 September along with director [Technical] S S Mohanty and director [Projects & Business Planning] T S Suresh. He was here to review the production status of the plant and progress made on the various ongoing projects, particularly the upcoming CRM-III unit.

During his visit, Verma interacted with the various groups of BSL employees who have won the PM's Shram Shree Award and the Vishwakarma Rashtriya Puraskar for the year 2011.The awardees apprised the chairman of the details of their projects and the benefits accrued to the plant from their innovative interventions. Verma lauded the efforts of the awardees and congratulated them for bringing laurels to SAIL & BSL. He urged them to continue with their good work and hoped that such efforts would help SAIL & BSL excel in all their future endeavours. 

Verma later visited the Blast Furnace#2, Continuous Casting Shop & Hot Strip Mill of the plant and took stock of the production status. 

He also visited the upcoming Cold Rolling Mill [CRM]-III and reviewed first hand, the status of this much-awaited unit of BSL. Notably,the state-of-the art CRM-III unit is poised to give a fillip to BSL's share in the country's premium white goods sector.

Later in the evening, Verma held detailed discussions regarding the Plant's performance during the first five months of the current fiscal with the senior officials of BSL. He also reviewed the progress made on all the major ongoing  projects in the Plant.

The meeting was attended by Mohanty, Suresh, BSL CEO Anutosh Maitra,EDs,GMs & other senior officials. During the deliberations, Verma underlined the importance of time-bound execution of jobs in order to maximise the benefits.

Speaking to the media people in a press meet, the SAIL chairman spelt out the growth plans of the steel major during the next few years. He outlined SAIL's investment plans in Jharkhand, particularly in respect of the proposed Sindri project & the JV project with POSCO in Bokaro. 

He also expressed satisfaction on the progress made so far in the aforesaid proposed projects.
