Sabyasachi Dutta sworn in as Bidhanagar mayor

Trinamool Congress MLA Sabyasachi Dutta was on Friday sworn in as the first mayor of newly formed Bidhannagar Municipal <g data-gr-id="18">Corportion</g>.

West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee had earlier this week nominated party MLA Sabyasachi Dutta, also a councillor of Bidhannagar, as the first mayor of the civic body.

Tapas Chatterjee will be the deputy mayor of Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation and Krishna Chatterjee, who was chairman of the Bidhannagar Municipality, will be the chairman of the corporation.

Banerjee said TMC will form a three-member committee headed by state Municipal Affairs Minister Firhad Hakim with Youth Affairs Minister Aroop Biswas and Kolkata mayor Sovan Chatterjee to help the newly formed boards to work properly.

In a major boost for TMC ahead of next year’s assembly polls, the party had scored <g data-gr-id="15">landslide</g> victory in the two corporations and wrested Bally civic body from the Left Front, who had ruled it for the last 40 years.
