RVP right to quit Arsenal, says Evra

Manchester United defender Patrice Evra insists his club’s Premier League title triumph proves that Robin van Persie was right to leave Arsenal.

Van Persie infuriated Arsenal fans by quitting their team to join rivals United in a £24 million ($36 million) transfer last year.

Inevitably, Van Persie was subjected to abuse from Arsenal supporters on his first return to the Emirates Stadium for Sunday’s 1-1 draw with the Gunners.

Yet, despite the hostile reception, he showed respect by opting not to celebrate his penalty equaliser. And Evra believes winning the title more than justifies the 29-year-old’s decision to quit a club who have now gone eight years without a trophy.

‘He hasn’t made the wrong choice,’ Evra said. ‘It was a long time that he didn’t win the league at Arsenal. He has come to Manchester United and won it.’
