Russian Sistema’s Indian JV rolls out 3G-plus network across all circles

Sistema Shyam TeleServices Ltd (SSTL), in which  Russian conglomerate Sistema owns 56.68 per cent share, the Shyam Group 23.98 per cent and the Russian government 17.14 per cent and which provides telecom services under the MTS brand, announced the commercial roll-out of its 3GPlus telecom network on Wednesday. The 3GPlus telecom network is based on the evolution-data optimised (EV-DO) Rev. B phase II technology.

The company made the announcement within two weeks after receiving its third spectrum carrier (a slot in the 800 Mhz spectrum band) from Department of Telecom (DoT).

 The telecom operator had won three slots of 1.25 Mhz each in 800 MHz band, used for providing CDMA services, for eight circles in the March auction for Rs 3,639 crore.

The introduction of 3GPlus will make MTS India, the first telecom operator in India to provide ubiquitous 3GPLUS network coverage across its nine circles of operation which include Delhi, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Kerela, Karntaka, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh (West) and West Bengal.

With the announcement,  the company has taken a leap in providing a significantly enhanced data experience to its customers who desire to access streaming multimedia.  Along with the 3GPlus network, MTS India has also introduced a next generation hi-tech dongle, Mblaze which provides data speed of up to 9.8 mbps and is priced at Rs. 1,299.

Adding to this, the company has also proposed plans to launch a range of smart phones by the end of the 2013 which will enable the customers to further utilise the power of the 3GPlus network.
The operator has launched tariff plans in the range of Rs 798 to Rs 1,498 for pre-paid customers and Rs 700 to Rs 1,399 for post-paid users having a validity of one month.

It has also announced a bundled offer for its pre-paid customers wherein they need to pay Rs 1,399 to get an MBlaze Ultra dongle along with 10 GB data usage with 30 day validity. Existing postpaid MBlaze customers can get the dongle by paying Rs 750 with complete cash back.

MTS India is the first telecom operator in the world which has launched the Rev. B phase II version of EV-DO network in Jaipur, Rajasthan in September 2011. Globally, EV-DO networks run in some of the most data requiring countries in the world including the US, Japan and Korea.

Explaining further about the new 3GPlus  network, the chief marketing and sales officer of MTS India, Leonid Mustav said: 'MTS 3GPlus network will redefine the way customers experience mobile broadband as we roll out Mblaze Ultra across India. This network empowers us to provide an enhanced consumer experience with even higher speeds, superior indoor penetration and outdoor coverage.’
