Russia to help Egypt build its first nuclear power plant

Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi said the pacts signed would to boost ties between the two countries.

Sisi said during a joint press conference with Putin at Qobba Palace in Cairo that Putin’s visit at this time is a support for the country in it’s war against terrorism.

According to the agreement, Russia and Egypt would jointly build the country’s first nuclear power plant in Dabaa (about 180 miles from Cairo). A memorandum of understanding to build the facility was signed by Egyptian and Russian officials during President Putin’s visit, which began yesterday, Sisi said.

Putin arrived in Egypt on a two-day visit -- his first visit in 10 years --and is likely to discuss a number of issues including?the Syrian crisis. “During our talks we focused on ways to settling the Syrian crisis and I briefed President el-Sisi about the results of the Syrian opposition meeting with al-Assad representatives in Moscow,” Putin said.

“We expect a second negotiation round between Syrian opposition and Assad representatives in Moscow soon that will help in solving the crisis,” he added.

Putin said the increase in Russian investments in the past two years reflects the political stability in Egypt under the rule of el-Sisi.

He reflected on people-to-people exchange between the two countries, saying more than 3.5 million Russian tourists had visited Egypt in 2014.

The two Presidents also discussed economic and military co-operation as well as anti-terrorism
efforts.

Putin invited Sisi to visit Russia again, after his earlier trip as defence minister in August.
The visit had resulted in a multi-billion dollar arms deal for Egypt.
