Russia awaiting nod for site for new nuke plant: Putin

He also said the two countries are preparing to sign a Strategic Vision document on atomic energy during his visit beginning tomorrow.

Describing nuclear energy cooperation as one of the pillars of strategic partnership, he plans to discuss the prospects for further development of bilateral cooperation in the area during his meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“Apart from building new energy units of the Nuclear Power Project Kudankulam, we await the decision of the Indian government to allot a site for construction of a new Russian designed nuclear power plant,” he said.

Documentation to start construction of the second NPP has been nearly finalised, Putin said, adding a general framework agreement for building the third and fourth energy units was signed in Mumbai this April.

“I must stress today that NPP Kudankulam is the world’s only nuclear power plant which meets all the “post-Fukushima” safety requirements,” he said.
