Rupa Ganguly heckled, convoy attacked in South 24-Parganas

Manturam Pakhira, Trinamool MLA and former minister denied involved of party workers. He said the criminals would be brought to book. The police have started an investigation into the matter.

The incident happened when Ganguly, along with other BJP workers, was returning from Ishwaripur village near Kakdwip in South

24-Parganas after visiting a party worker, who was assaulted allegedly by TMC workers on Saturday and was admitted to a local hospital there, a senior district police officer said.

On her way back home to the city she went to Iswaripur village to drop some relatives of the victim.
Ganguly was driving her vehicle. When it was entering the village, one of the relatives spotted a boy who was present during the attack on Saturday night.

The boy left the place and the woman accompanying him raised an alarm. Some miscreants gheraoed the vehicle and damaged it.

Ganguly was injured and was taken to Diamond Harbor Hospital where she was treated.

The police posted there intervened and restrained the locals and took control of the situation, an officer said, adding though Rupa was “not injured”, she was taken to a local hospital, where from she was released after a check-up.

The police have started a case and investigation is on. It may be recalled that a BJP delegation led by state president Dilip Ghosh and vice president Subhas sarkar met Governor KN Tripathi on Saturday and alleged attack on their supporters by TMC backed goons. TMC leaders of South 24-Parganas denied involvement of their party workers. They said the police was investigating and those involved would be arrested and punished.
